What requires Retropa Plus

Plus is what opens the arcade families, the premium skins and the advanced display filters. Switching between emulation cores, running arcade titles and reaching the advanced save workflows all sit behind that same tier. Handheld play carries on either way.

Why arcade support is part of Plus

Arcade emulation is its own line of work: several boards, multi-file sets, BIOS dependencies and compatibility that varies set by set. Bundling it into Plus keeps the free tier tidy, and keeps handheld play open to everyone.
